Death in Door County, A by Annelise Ryan

A rather interesting concept for a cozy mystery…I think. I don’t know. I don’t really read cozy mysteries. Are they all like this?

As I mentioned earlier, I normally don’t gravitate to the cozy mystery sub-genre (I like my mysteries slightly uncomfortable, thank you very much). I read this for a library book club that I ended up failing to attend (to my great shame). I would have liked to discuss this book. Also, having traveled to Door County a couple of times, I enjoyed the story’s setting. It was sort of a love letter to that stretch of Wisconsin.

A supposed mysterious creature is killing people in Lake Michigan, specifically near Door County, Wisconsin. Bookstore owner and cryptozoologist Morgan Carter is called upon by policeman Jon Flanders to help investigate. However, what she uncovers proves to be larger and more dangerous than a mythical lake monster. And somehow, she finds the emotional bandwidth to think romantic thoughts about the enigmatic Police Chief Carter despite her tragic past, and a connection to Carter’s uncle.
