Old Man Fookwire is a grump who doesn’t like anything…except birds. Throughout the summer he spends his days painting the birds that come to visit. “There [are] whirley birds and bonga birds, baba birds and yaba birds. Even a rare floogle bird [comes] by once or twice.”
When the fall arrives, Fookwire is sad because his feathered friends will soon be flying south for the winter, unless…Quickly, he builds a number of beautiful birdfeeders, providing the birds the food they need to stay through the cold weather. The plan is working perfectly, until:
“Those darn squirrels!”
A group of super-smart squirrels manage to empty all of the birdfeeders. It is soon a battle of wits as Old Man Fookwire makes the birdfeeders harder and harder to get at, while the squirrels find new and inventive ways to reach the food.
Who will win this battle? Find out when you read Those Darn Squirrels! by Adam Rubin. If you like this book, be sure to read Those Darn Squirrels and the Cat Next Door and Those Darn Squirrels Fly South, also by Adam Rubin.
