This book has everything! History, mystery, suspense, conspiracy, murder, Washington DC intrigue, a touch of romance…and of course, Abraham Lincoln! The end of the story came as a surprise (at least for me) and left enough loose threads to provide material for a sequel.

Stephen L. Carter did an excellent job of bringing his characters to life and even instilling some of them with a sense of mystery. You’re never quite sure who’s the good guy and who’s the bad guy until you arrive at the book’s climax.
